An Introduction To Western Calligraphy

The Instructor: Dr. Ludwig Tan

We hosted another workshop with Crafty Singapore last July 20th together with Richard from Uniquegrabs and Seraphina from Herphotoblog. Dr. Ludwig Tan taught a class on an Introduction to Western Calligraphy. He taught the basic techniques on how to write the Italic script and I must say that it was a very fun afternoon.

Practicing the alphabet

The workshop lasted for almost 3 hours and time flew by. I had fun learning how to write italics but it was very challenging. Holding the pen while at the required angle and memorizing the strokes was far more challenging than I expected. I’ve been doing calligraphy for years now but this is the first time I’ve tried Italics.

Practice makes great progress

Learning calligraphy is challenging but it is very rewarding. We hope to offer more calligraphy workshops in the future so we can grow the community here in Singapore.
