The Festival of Light

The Festival of Light or c is one of the traditional Festivals of Thailand. The word “Loy” means “to float” and “Krathong” means a raft. This festival pays respect to the goddess of the waters and it is held near a body of water throughout the kingdom.

This year the festival will be celebrated on Thursday, 10 November 2011.

According to sgholiday.com, the following areas are popular places to celebrate this festival:

  • Bangkok: Here, people assemble in large number at the banks of Chao Phraya river to float their Krathongs. Lumphini Park is also a popular place to float Krathongs.
  • Sukhothai: Join the Festival in Sukhothai Historical Park. This is the place where the first krathong was said to be set afloat and is likely to be where most activities are. A beautiful sound and light show is the highlight here.
  • Chiang Mai: The Loy Krathong Festival takes place along the Mae Ping River on two nights of the full moon. On the first night, the people of Chiangmai take their lanterns to the Ping River and set them afloat. Then on the second night, Chiangmai hosts an illuminated parade with large floats of beautiful Chiangmai women dressed in the northern Lanna costumes of old.

Track Your Travels via Scrath Map

I love to travel and this piece is just a perfect way to track where I’ve been. Although I’ve only been to a few countries, I plan to see the world in my lifetime. This piece is called My Scratch Map. It looks like a classic map that has scratch off paint superimposed on some lovely geographic detail. Simply scratch off the top layer of gold foil to reveal the lovely and colourful geographic detail underneath.

Venice

Ever since I was a kid I always dreamed of travelling. The very first place I wanted to go to was Venice. I just fell in love with the architecture and the gondolas. Stumbling across this photo made me remember how amazed I was then, that there was a place there people travelled by boat within the city.

Maison Moschino

As I child, I always dreamed of travelling to Italy and Venice. Now I can add one more thing to my dream vacation. Staying at this hotel. Did you know that the designer brand Moschino opened their own hotel in Italy this February? The place is called Maison Moschino. It is located in an old railway station called Viale Monte Grappa which is in Milan. It it boasts of 12 luxurious rooms wonderfully decorated by the whimsical designers of Moschino. The facade of the building was kept in its original neoclassical style but each room is decorated in a lavish yet relaxing decor.
