Interview: Rebekah from Through Bambi Eyes

Rebekah from Through Bambi Eyes

We met Rebekah at the Queen Victoria Market Night Market. I really love her head scarves, they are very colourful and pretty, perfect for adding a dash of colour in any winter outfit.

1. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Rebekah Jayne. After exploring the world and living in Austria I came back to Australia and began leaning to design and sew. I entered fashions on the field at the Yarra Valley Melbourne cup and was runner up. Since then i have been designing dresses and accessories. I love working with natural and organic fabrics and have a focus on sustainability in fashion. I decided to start with accessories making headscarves, bows and bow ties. I like being unique especially when it comes to clothing. I reflect this in my work be only making a few of each fabric design. I am slowly expanding into women’s wear with a range of nighties coming soon.

2. How did you come up with your shop or brand name?

A guy once commented on my eyes. He said “you have bambi eyes”. Then when I went back to Europe to send back my belongings I wrote a blog and came up with “Through Bambi Eyes.

Etsy Craft Party 2015

We were eager to join our very first Etsy Craft Party since moving to Australia. The theme for this year was Kaleidoscope: Paper Taking Shape. We got a bit lost when we got to the Ian Potter Centre but we finally managed to locate the room after asking several museum staff.

Etsy Craft Party 2015: Kaleidoscope: Paper Taking Shape

The room was pretty packed and we were excited to make a little kaleidoscope. We quickly found a seat after going through registration.

Making my diamond kaleidoscope at the Etsy Craft Party

The tools and materials were layed-out in front of us and there were several templates and instructions. It was challenging trying to cut out the inner parts out using a pair of scissors. Another lady in the group brought her own pen knife and she was able to make a few pieces quickly.

Colorful Kaleidoscope

It was fun making my own little diamond kaleidoscope during the alloted hour. There were several successive sessions so we couldn’t really linger but it was fun talking to the people we were seated with and getting to know some fresh faces. We’re looking forward to the next Etsy Craft Party.

Etsy Craft Party: Wish you were here

We went to the Handmade Singapore’s Craft Party last weekend. Suzi from Tiramisuzi organized the event at her apartment. There were eight participants and we were going to carve linocuts using this soft rubber from Art Friends.

The theme was for the craft party was “Wish you were here”. It was our own delayed celebration of the Etsy worldwide craft party celebration.

My Pardo Print

I made a linocut of my parent’s house because I missed my family and I wished they were with me.

Awesome Pixel People Cross Stitch

I did some cross stitch projects in school and I swore never to do another one ever again. That is, until I saw these super cool patterns from Jacqueline of weelittlestitches.

She has patterns for most of our favorite series and movies. Don’t you think this is a perfect project for the weekend?

Christmas Craft Party

We had a craft party with Etsy folks and friends at Marie’s place. Marie and I thought that it would be a fun way to get together aside from our regular meet-up where we discuss issues for small businesses over coffee with other members. With all team events, we welcome members and guests. Joining us for this event are:

1. Katrina and Lex (Katrina Alana)
2. Marie (Etincelle Studio)
3. Claire (fellowfellow)
4. Lisa (florigamigirl)
5. Melani (magsbeadscreation)
6. Susan (tiramisuzi)

We’re planning on having another craft party by January for Valentine’s Day. We will be announcing the date earlier so more people can join.

Melanie, Claire, Lisa, Marie and Katrina

Susan already left before we remembered to take the photo at the end of the session. Time passed so quickly and before we knew it, three hours had passed.

Talking about our activities for the day

We planned to make cards, wrap gifts, make tags  and make tree ornaments. Everyone was busy working on their individual projects.

Craft supplies for everyone to use

We chatted a bit about business and everyone helped each other with some craft advice.

Just a few of the stamps available for everyone to use

We had a drinks, cake, biscuits, watermelon plus these cute cupcakes as refreshments

Susan’s project

Susan’s stamps were so popular with everyone. I used them to make the gift tags for our Christmas presents.

Our Wax Seal was featured on the Etsy Front Page!

Our modern wax seal was featured in the Etsy Front Page via the “I’d rather be writing” treasury curated by CardsbyR last July 22, 2011. I just found out about it today. We are so happy to have been featured! Getting on the front page means a lot of shop exposure and it could be the reason why August sales where off the charts.

It’s not who you are that holds you back…

I’m dreaming of my future home again and I’ve been looking at beautiful prints to adorn my future studio or living room. I found this wonderful designer and blogger, Valentina Ramos. She currently lives in the Sunshine State but she’s originally from Valenzuela. Her prints are very affordable at $15 each for a 8×10 size.

Here are a few of my favorites:
